White peppercorns come from the same vine as black ones, but are soaked in water after the harvest to remove the outer skin. This process gives them the slightly fermented taste prized by Japanese cooks and the smooth mellow flavor preferred in European cuisine. These Sarawak white peppercorns are also available in Ground White Pepper.

Details

These are Sarawak white peppercorns, from the Malaysian island of Borneo. White peppercorns, while still distinctly peppery, are quite different from that of black peppercorns. The soaking gives these white peppercorns a mellow, slightly fermented taste. White pepper is strongly preferred over black pepper in European and Southeast Asian kitchens. In this country we consume about twelve times as much black pepper as white, while in Europe the ratios are reversed. Ground white pepper virtually disappears in most dishes, allowing the introduction of fine flavor without marring the presentation of light-colored sauces and dishes. While grinding whole peppercorns as needed is the best way to get peak flavor, we also offer a finely ground white pepper, which is ground fresh weekly in our shops. Ingredients: White peppercorns.

I love all your products. I particularly love the fact that I can buy in small amounts and store in your beautiful and useful flatpack holders. I use them mainly for cooking Chinese dishes and grind either with grinder or mortar and pestle. The aroma is wonderful.

Purchased a bunch of whole spices for making sausages and the whole family raved about the taste. If you compare the smell of fresh ground spice to the supermarket jars, you would be shocked and yes it carries through to the final product. The whole white peppercorns were amazing and the classic taste in Asian dishes like fried gyoza and egg drop soup. I’ll be back to refresh my herb basics soon. Wonderful spices

I have a relatively large spice rack for European style cooking, some of which I grow and dry for my own use . The Spice house herbs are about as intense and flavorful as those I prepare. The spices are equally flavorful and potent and presumably the best available. Cooking and eating are much more enjoyable when you can add to the flavors of the primary ingredients of your dish.
