Step into a realm of rich aromas and timeless traditions with Whole Nutmeg. Whole Nutmeg, encased in its hard shell, offers not just culinary delight but also a sensory journey—one where each grate or grind reveals a burst of warmth, sweetness, and intricate spice. It's not merely a spice; it's a testament to nature's ability to surprise us with simple gifts.

Nutmeg was once so rare and valuable the Dutch traded Manhattan to the British for the sole island on which it grew. It has a fragrant and intense flavor when freshly ground. Today, Nutmeg is used in baked goods and custards, and grated for mashed potatoes, ravioli fillings, and egg nog. Also available in Ground Nutmeg. Visit our blog to learn nutmeg's history and browse recipes. Please note, nutmeg can vary quite a lot in size so selling by weight ensures our customers receive the quantity that they paid for.

Details

Until just a few centuries ago, all the world’s nutmeg grew on just a few tiny islands in Indonesia. European colonial powers fought bitterly over control of these islands, as nutmeg was highly valued for its flavor, preservative qualities, and alleged ability to cure plague. The Dutch held a monopoly on nutmeg production for many years, but when it was broken nutmeg trees spread to the West Indies and beyond. These large whole nutmegs are grown in the Caribbean island of Grenada, which is famous for especially high-quality nutmegs. Their dense, oily pits will keep for years in your cupboard, releasing an amazingly complex aroma and flavor every time you grate them.

The allure of Whole Nutmeg lies in its pristine form. When freshly grated, it releases a spectrum of flavors that pre-ground nutmeg simply can't match. This is the secret behind the most tantalizing desserts, savory dishes, and even beverages. Whether it's the key note in a classic bechamel sauce, the heartwarming touch in a pumpkin pie, or the aromatic hint in a festive eggnog, Whole Nutmeg stands as a beacon of authenticity and depth of flavor. Its natural oils are preserved within its shell, ensuring that every grate introduces a potent and fresh essence to the dish.

Our commitment to you is one of quality. Our Whole Nutmeg is sourced from the most renowned spice regions, where the seeds are nurtured to perfection before being harvested. We ensure the nutmeg's integrity is maintained from the farm to your kitchen.

Whole Nutmeg Key Features:

Heaven Scent

I love the aroma of freshly grated nutmeg in my baked goods and especially in a batch of instant oatmeal. Rather than buying little packets, I put all the ingredients in an airtight container with lots of nutmeg, my daughter scoops a half cup adds water and breakfast is ready in two minutes.

Fresh ,big difference in flavor

I love using whole nutmeg. Grating it fresh is such a better flavor. It's such a underused spice in my opinion. I use it often .
