Gathered at their peak under the Andalusian sun, our Anise Seeds lend a fleeting and floral scent reminiscent of licorice. Use these whole seeds in Spanish tomato sauces, German brines, and sweet Italian sausages. Also available as Star Anise Pieces.

Details

Anise Seed is native to the Mediterranean basin and has been used throughout history in both sweet and savory applications. In the Mediterranean, anise is featured heavily in breads, cookies and liquors, and the Romans even ended their elaborate feasts with anise cakes. In small amounts, anise makes a nice addition to sausage or in tomato sauce. Despite their name, anise seeds are not botanically related to star anise, but they have nearly identical flavors and in ground form can be substituted for each other. Ingredients: Anise seeds.

Best Anise Seed

The flavor of these anise seeds is the best I have ever found. I have tried numerous other brands and none compare. I used to buy these seeds in the Evanston store but then they stopped carrying them. Fortunately, they are available online. I use the whole seeds and also grind the seeds for use in some Greek cookies (paximathia). The flavor is unbelievable! People consistently tell me my paximathia are the best they have ever had and it is due to these anise seeds. Please never stop carrying this product Spice House!

Pizzelles

Hard to find anise seeds locally. I’ve always ordered them at Christmas for pizzelles. I make a lot because my family and friends love them. I’ve always ordered from Amazon but thought I’d give The Spice House a try. Aside from the fact that they were exactly what I wanted, they were packaged in a heavy plastic bag that didn’t take up much space. I thought the price was great and they didn’t take too long to arrive. I will definitely order again.
