Known also by its Kurdish name, Isot, biber is Turkish for pepper while Urfa is a province in Turkey's southeast. A cross-border cousin to Aleppo pepper, this pepper, mild in heat, and redolent of raisin, chocolate, and smoked, ripens to a dark maroon color on the plant. Great with sautéed eggplant and tomato dishes, it is also fantastic with lamb and kebabs.

The Urfa Biber (pepper) is a Turkish chile pepper. This pepper is full of smoky sultry flavors and modest heat. This pepper measures in at approximately 7,500 Scoville heat units. The urfa pepper has a beautiful purple color to add to your dishes. They also have a raisin sweet note that pairs well with treats, like brownies or chocolate chip cookies. They add a nice flavor to vegetables as well as a twist to a traditional mole.

An excellent condiment for anything that you would sprinkle black pepper on. Especially good on pasta with seafood & Boursin cheese sauce w/ truffle oil. Also good on pizza, rice, stews, omelettes, etc. etc. Brings out a rich, savory depth. A wee bit of heat, but very mild.

LOVE URFA BIBER!

After discovering Urfa Biber, I now sprinkle it generously on nopalitos, which I eat with breakfast quesadillas several times a week. It blends beautifully with the tangy taste of the cactus while countering it a bit.. It adds a lot of subtle flavor , but its' "heat" level is much lower than Allepo, and its flavor entirely uniquet. I now use more Urfa Biber than almost any other herb or spice in my cabinet!
