Garam Masala
Years ago, a Punjabi man came into our store with his mother's recipe for this spice blend. We received the recipe in exchange for grinding and blending the ingredients. Unlike other curry powders that are based on turmeric, our Garam Masala is a mixture of coriander, cardamom and black pepper. This blend also uses Kalonji, also known as nigella or black cumin. This highly aromatic mix works nicely as an all-purpose Indian blend for seasoning everything from lamb and pork to fish, vegetables and potatoes. Sprinkle this onto dishes near the end of cooking to preserve its unique flavor.
