Spicy Chai Tea Recipe

Spicy Chai Tea

This is a seasoning mix for a quick, spicy chai tea recipe. Unlike most recipes, the seasoning mix can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator until needed.

Also, neither the spices nor the tea are cooked. Just add this to any brewed black tea. A warning: it is very spicy, and the amounts of the mix can be adjusted to personal taste.

Submitted by: Stephen from Des Moines, Iowa
Yield: 1 batch

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients well. Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.

  2. Brew a full-flavored black tea (like Assam, Keemun, or Yunnan) extra strong.

  3. To drink hot, add 1 Tablespoon (or more to taste) to cup, pour in tea, and mix.

  4. To drink iced, pour tea over ice cubes in tall glass, add 1 Tablespoon (or more to taste) and stir. For iced tea, it is helpful to allow
tea to brew for about 5 minutes, and allow to cool a bit before pouring over the ice.

No good. All I could taste was the black pepper (of which I only put in 1/4 tsp) and the spices just turned to sludge at the bottom of my cup.

OMGosh I call this recipe perfect! Instead of the sweetened condensed milk I used “SO Deliciois” dairy free coconut milk creamer in French Vanilla. Thank you! Starbucks be gone! Ha ha ha!

The flavor is spot on with the 3 tsp of cardamom, and I added coconut milk and honey to make a spiced iced coconut chai latte. Any idea about removing the graininess of the spices or should I just strain?

Hi,
Do you have an alternative for the sweet condensed milk?
We did that in the past. very high in calories and not cheap with a family dipping into the Spicy Chai.
Thanks,
Philip

I make this recipe (without the tea) and keep it onhand all the time. It’s great in pancakes and cakes. Everyone in my family loves it. Great for gifts too! Please don’t take this recipe down because I return to it every time I need it (and buy new spices). Thanks!

Next time I will cut back on the cardamom a wee bit…5 tsp seems too much. It may be because that was the only spice I ground fresh that it is overpowering, but next time I will try it with 3 tsp cardamom. THanks man!
