When the Indian Subcontinent crashed into Asia, the force created the Himalayan Mountains and also exposed ancient sea salt deposits. Eons later, that salt is being mined from the foothills of the Himalayas. The pale pink color comes from traces of iron oxide, which gives the salt a subtly sweet flavor.
